The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story. Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture.

Jesus told a story about a father and two sons. The younger son asked for his inheritance so he could move far away. He soon spent all his money foolishly and had to take a job feeding swine. Weary and hungry, he decided to ask his father if he could return as a servant. When the prodigal son’s father saw him on the road, his father joyfully embraced him and accepted him back as a son. Then, his father gave a feast to celebrate his return saying, “He was lost, but now he is found!”
Discussion Questions
How did the younger son feel about himself when he decided to return? When we hear how the father reacted to the return of his son, what is Jesus telling us about God? The story also tells us how the older son reacted. Talk about that.

Long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth! (Judaism)

Verily, on account of compassion for them
I, Who dwell within their own souls.
Destroy the darkness born of their unwisdom
By the shining lamp of wisdom." (Hinduism)
