Week 23 of Year 5 "Into Jerusalem"

Menu

For adult study: "Into Jerusalem"

The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, titled Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story. Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture.

Paper 172:3
The Urantia Book

The whole city was stirred up

Students may read Paper 172:3.11-16 or entire section

Jesus rode into Jerusalem, surrounded by a joyful crowd who waved leafy branches and shouted, “Hosanna!” The Pharisees wanted to arrest him, but they saw the excitement and adoration of the crowd. The Pharisees had long sought to stop Jesus from teaching, but nothing had worked. And now, “When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was stirred up, saying, ‘Who is this?’ And the crowds said, ‘This is the prophet Jesus, from Nazareth of Galilee.’”

Discussion Questions

Why do you think Jesus chose to enter Jerusalem in this way? The joy of Palm Sunday was wonderful, but it didn’t last long. What do you know about the last week of Jesus’ life, which is traditionally known as Holy Week?

This paragraph explains why it was a good idea for an enthusiastic crowd to accompany Jesus into Jerusalem. Also read what Nathaniel understood in the next section. (172:5.7)

Re: Sagacity

172:3.2  All morning Jesus had thought about his entry into Jerusalem. Heretofore he had always endeavored to suppress all public acclaim of him as the Messiah, but it was different now; ...

172:5.7 ... Nathaniel had great confidence in Jesus’ understanding of men as well as in his sagacity and cleverness in handling difficult situations.

Chapter 17—The Wise Man and the Foolish—p.82

The wise man lives in the world;

but he lives cautiously, dealing with the world cautiously.

He universalizes his heart;

the people give him their eyes and ears.  (Taoism)

Who is wise and intelligent among you?

Let him, out of the noble life that he lives,

show his works in wise gentleness.  (Christianity)
