Week 30 of Year 1 "Mary Magdalene"

Menu

For adult study: "Mary Magdalene"

The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, titled Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story. Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture.

Paper 189:4-5
The Urantia Book

Mary stood outside by the tomb weeping

Students may read Paper 189:5 or all of sections 4-5

Mary Magdalene and other women went to Jesus’ tomb early on Sunday morning. They found that the stone had been rolled away, and the tomb was empty. The women quickly reported everything they had seen and heard to the apostles, who did not believe them. Peter and John, however, ran to the tomb to see for themselves. Mary Magdalene, who had returned to the garden, remained alone outside the tomb weeping. Jesus appeared to her and spoke to her.

Discussion Questions

Mary Magdalene was a follower of Jesus who witnessed his crucifixion, burial, and the empty tomb. Why do you think Mary returned to the empty tomb? Mary saw Jesus and also heard him speak. Why was it helpful to hear Jesus speak?

Re: Morontia Life

191:3.1 The next day, Monday, was spent wholly with the morontia creatures then present on Urantia. ...

191:3.4 ... And it was by these very morontia experiences that the Creator Son of Nebadon really finished and acceptably terminated his seventh and final universe bestowal.

Chapter 15—Future Life and Immortality—p.65

All the living must die

and, dying, return to the ground.

The bones and the flesh moulder below

and, hidden away, become the earth of the fields.

But the spirit issues forth,

and is displayed on high

in a condition of glorious brightness.  (Confucianism)

If this tent, our earthly home, is thrown down,

we have a building of God,

a home not made by hands,

eternal in the heavens.  (Christianity)
