Can anything good come out of Nazareth?
Students may read Paper 137:2.3-7
After spending some time with John the Baptist, Jesus headed back to Galilee. On the way, he encountered Philip and Nathaniel. First, Jesus saw Philip and said, “Follow me.” Philip then went to Nathaniel, who was sitting under a tree, and declared that he had found the Deliverer. Nathaniel was doubtful. He asked, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?” Philip replied, “Come and see.” When Nathaniel met Jesus face-to-face, he also became a disciple.
Discussion Questions
What was good about Philip’s reply? What do you think caused Nathaniel to become a disciple? Jesus said of Nathaniel, “Behold a genuine Israelite, in whom there is no deceit.” Jesus recognized that Nathaniel was honest and sincere.
