Week 15 of Year 1 "Presentation in the Temple"

Menu

For adult study: "Presentation in the Temple"

The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story.
Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture.

Paper 122:9
The Urantia Book

They brought him up to Jerusalem

Students may read Paper 122:9.2-4 or entire section
Soon after the birth of Jesus, his parents brought him to Jerusalem and presented him to the priests in the temple. According to Jewish law, this was necessary for all first-born sons. They also offered a sacrifice for Mary’s purification. Two elderly people, named Simeon and Anna, were in the temple when the family arrived. When they beheld Jesus, they believed that he was the promised Messiah who would bring salvation to the Jewish people.
Discussion Questions
From the reading, what do we know about Simeon and Anna? Simeon gave voice to what became known as the “Song of Simeon.” It included the words, “For my eyes have seen your salvation.” Many years later, what does salvation mean to us?

Re: Salvation

137:8.15  “Entrance into the Father’s kingdom waits not upon marching armies, upon overturned kingdoms of this world, nor upon the breaking of captive yokes. The kingdom of heaven is at hand, and all who enter therein shall find abundant liberty and joyous salvation.

141:6.4 ... Simply go forth proclaiming: This is the kingdom of heaven—God is your Father and you are his sons, and this good news, if you wholeheartedly believe it, is your eternal salvation.”
