Week 26 of Year 4 "The Promised Spirit"

Menu

For adult study: "The Promised Spirit"

The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story. Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture.

Paper 180:4
The Urantia Book

I will not leave you desolate

Students may read Paper 180:4.4-6 or entire section

Jesus made a promise to his disciples on the evening of the Last Supper. He promised to send a new spirit to comfort, help, and guide them. Jesus spoke of this spirit saying, “He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.” The Spirit helps us to know Jesus and experience his presence in our lives. The new spirit that Jesus promised is a teacher as well as a comforter. “When the Spirit of Truth comes, he will guide you into all truth.”

Discussion Questions

Today, we know that Jesus sent this promised spirit on the day of Pentecost. It has long been known as the Holy Spirit. Even now, it comforts, helps, and guides us. How do we know that the Spirit is still with us? How can we experience it?

Chapter 29—Truth and Truthfulness—p.148

God guideth into the truth.  (Islam)

A fully enlightened one doth proclaim the truth

Both in its letter and in its spirit,
Lovely in its origin, lovely in its progress,

Lovely in its consummation;

The higher life doth he make known
In all its purity and in all its perfectness.  (Buddhism)
