Week 27 of Year 2 "The Arrest of Jesus"

Menu

For adult study: "The Arrest of Jesus"

The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, titled Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story.
Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture.

Paper 183:3
The Urantia Book

I am he

Students may read Paper 183:3.4-7 or entire section

After praying in the garden, Jesus waited for Judas and the soldiers to come and arrest him. Upon their arrival, he asked, “Whom do you seek?” They replied, “Jesus of Nazareth.” When Jesus answered, “I am he,” a strange thing happened. The soldiers near him fell backwards. Then, Judas stepped forward to betray Jesus with a kiss. When they began to arrest him, Peter drew his sword. But Jesus said to Peter, “All who take the sword will perish by the sword.”

Discussion Questions
Why do you think the soldiers fell backwards when Jesus answered, “I am he”? Jesus had suffered great anguish while praying in the garden, but now he was ready for his arrest. Why would he not allow the angels to rescue him?

Re: Composure

184:3.5 ... The entire court was startled and somewhat confused by his majestic appearance. Never had they gazed upon such a prisoner nor witnessed such composure in a man on trial for his life.

186:4.3  By the time the soldiers were ready to depart with Jesus for Golgotha, they had begun to be impressed by his unusual composure and extraordinary dignity, by his uncomplaining silence.
