Week 31 of Year 2 "On the Shore - Part 2"

Menu

For adult study: "On the Shore - Part 2"

The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story.
Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture.

Paper 192:1-2
The Urantia Book

Feed my sheep

Students may read Paper 192:2.2-4 or all of sections 1-2

The apostles returned to Galilee and went fishing one night. At daybreak, Jesus appeared on the shore next to a campfire. Soon, they all gathered around the fire  for breakfast. After breakfast, Jesus talked with Peter as they walked along the shore. Jesus asked Peter, “Do you love me?” Peter answered, “Yes, Lord; you know that I love you.” And Jesus replied, “Feed my lambs.” Three times Jesus asked Peter this question and then told him to feed and care for his sheep.

Discussion Questions

What do you think Jesus meant when he told Peter, “Feed my lambs”? What did Jesus want Peter to understand about love? Remember that Jesus said, “I am the Good Shepherd.” The apostles were called to be shepherds to Jesus’ flock.

Chapter 45—Serving Others—p.245

Let no one be for ever seeking his own good;

But let each seek that of his fellow-man.  (Christianity)

Through the performance of the duties laid down for him

Many and high will be the excellences of the man who,

Earning his livelihood during his stay in this world,

Devotes his soul to the well-being of all creatures.  (Hinduism)
