The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story. Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture.
Paper 144:3
The Urantia Book
Jesus encouraged his disciples to pray often and trust that God fully understands their prayers. He said, “Your Father knows what you need even before you ask.” One day, a disciple said to Jesus, "Master, teach us how to pray,” like John the Baptist taught his disciples. So, Jesus gave them a model prayer that became known as the Lord’s Prayer. Part of the prayer says, “Save us in temptation, deliver us from evil, and increasingly make us perfect like yourself.”
Discussion Questions
People face many types of temptation. For example, sometimes we are tempted to be selfish or unkind. We need to do our part to overcome temptation. But what is this prayer also telling us? How do we become more like our perfect Father?
In Thee, O Lord, do I put my trust.
Deliver me in Thy righteousness. Lead me and guide me.
Thou art my strength. Into Thine hand I commit my spirit.
Thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.
I trusted in Thee, O Lord. Thou art my God! (Judaism)
O our Lord! In Thee do we trust. To Thee do we turn.
To Thee shall we come back at the last. (Islam)
