Week 6 of Year 5 "The Draught of Fishes"

Menu

For adult study: "The Draught of Fishes"

The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story. Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture.

Paper 145:1
The Urantia Book

Let down your nets for a catch

Students may read Paper 145:1

A large crowd gathered beside the Sea of Galilee to hear Jesus. Some nearby fishermen allowed Jesus to sit in their boat to teach. When he was done teaching, Jesus wanted to help the fishermen who had been out all night but caught nothing. So, he told them where to let down their nets. Despite their doubts, they did as Jesus directed and soon caught more fish than their nets could handle. This greatly impressed the fishermen. And from that day on, they followed Jesus.

Discussion Questions

This became known as “the first miraculous catch of fish.” It was a life-changing event in the lives of those fishermen. Who were they? The fishermen decided then and there to follow Jesus. What did it mean for them to follow Jesus?
