Week 31 of Year 4 "The Ascension"

Menu

For adult study: "The Ascension"

The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story. Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture.

Paper 193:5
The Urantia Book

He parted from them

Students may read Paper 193:5

The apostles returned to Jerusalem to await the coming of the promised Spirit. Jesus appeared and led them up the Mount of Olives where he spoke his final blessing. Then, “He parted from them,” and Jesus began his ascent to the right hand of the Father. The apostles went back to the upper room in Jerusalem where a large group of followers had assembled, including Jesus’ mother Mary. They all knew that Jesus promised to send his Spirit to comfort and inspire them.

Discussion Questions

The ascension of Jesus happened on the fortieth day after his resurrection. What gave his followers hope after he disappeared from their sight? Today, we are not able to see Jesus, yet we experience his presence. How can that be?

Chapter 2—The Divine Power and Wisdom—p.7

O God, Thou hast made the sun, eternal star,

To mount the sky, bestowing light on living men.

Thou, God, are the people's light—

Best, dearest, seated in Thy shrine.  (Hinduism)

Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised;

And His greatness is unsearchable.  (Judaism)
