Extra Lesson "The Accused Woman"

Menu

For adult study: "The Accused Woman"

The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, titled Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story. Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture.

Paper 162:3
The Urantia Book

He bent down and wrote on the ground

Students may read Paper 162:3.5 or entire section

Jesus attended the Feast of Tabernacles, and he went to the temple to teach. One morning, the enemies of Jesus brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, which was prohibited by the Ten Commandments. The law said she should be stoned, but they asked Jesus what he thought should be done. Jesus knew they wanted to trap him. With his finger, he wrote upon the sand, and one by one they all left. Then, Jesus spoke kindly to the woman who was left standing alone.

Discussion Questions

Can you explain why Jesus would get into trouble no matter how he answered? What do you suppose Jesus wrote on the ground? Talk about what Jesus said to the accused woman after everyone else had left.
