Extra Lesson "Get Behind Me"

Menu

For adult study: "Get Behind Me"

The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, titled Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story.
Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture.

Paper 158:7
The Urantia Book

This shall never happen to you!

Students may read Paper 158:7.2-5 or entire section

Jesus began to prepare his disciples for how his ministry would end and what was going to happen to him. But the disciples didn’t want to hear about it. Jesus told them that he must go to Jerusalem where he would be rejected, killed, and then raised from the dead. Peter was shocked when he heard this, and he said, “This shall never happen to you!” But Jesus reacted very strongly against Peter’s protest. Then, Jesus explained more of what he meant when he said, “Follow me.”

Discussion Questions

Why do you think Jesus reacted the way he did to Peter? Jesus knew he had a great responsibility to obey the will of God and lead the way. The disciples needed to understand what it truly meant to follow Jesus. How can we follow Jesus?

Chapter 40—Obedience—p.216

Accordance with the Supreme is what is called being complete.

And not allowing anything external to affect the will

is what is called being perfect.  (Taoism)

I have refrained my feet from every evil way,
