Week 12 of Year 3 "The Transfiguration - Part 2"

For adult study: "The Transfiguration - Part 2"

Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture. The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story.

Paper 158:0-3
The Urantia Book

They saw his glory

Students may read Paper 158:1.8-10 or all of sections 0-3
Jesus brought Peter, James, and John to a place on a high mountain. There, Jesus prayed, and the three disciples fell asleep. Upon awakening, they saw Jesus shining in heavenly light. They also saw two others standing with him and talking. This magnificent scene frightened the disciples, but Peter managed to say, “Let us make three tents, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah” Before Peter was done speaking, a bright cloud hovered over them, and they heard a divine voice.
Discussion Questions

Why do you think Jesus wanted Peter, James, and John to see this mysterious and magnificent scene? Talk about the two others who were standing with Jesus. Can you think of any reason why the scene of the transfiguration would include them?

He is the First and the Last, the Seen and the Hidden.  (Islam)

I attribute all things to the Wise Lord,

the Good, Righteous, Holy, Resplendent, Glorious;

to Whom belong all good things,

the world, righteousness prevailing in the world;

with Whose light all brilliant objects

and the luminous globes are covered.  (Zoroastrianism)
