Week 6 of Year 2 "The Wise Father"

Menu

For adult study: "The Wise Father"

The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story. Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture.

Paper 144:2.4
The Urantia Book

How much more shall your heavenly Father give

Students may read Paper 144:2.4

One day, Jesus told a story about how a wise father would answer the request of his child. We all know that a child might ask for something that would not be good for them. If earthly fathers know how to give wisely to their children, we can be sure that God will give us what we truly need and more. Our heavenly Father gives us everything we need to grow spiritually. Jesus said, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.”

Discussion Questions

We can talk to God about the things we want or need. What are some things that people pray for? We should remember, however, to trust God’s will. What does that mean? Jesus said we should “pray always and not become discouraged.”

Re: Prayer

146:2.8  7. The cry of the righteous is the faith act of the child of God which opens the door of the Father’s storehouse of goodness, truth, and mercy, and these good gifts have long been in waiting for the son’s approach and personal appropriation.

146:2.10  9. “I have come forth from the Father; if, therefore, you are ever in doubt as to what you would ask of the Father, ask in my name, and I will present your petition in accordance with your real needs and desires and in accordance with my Father’s will.”

Chapter 6—Worship and Prayer—p.23

First and pre-eminent, excelling all besides,

Are the kind gifts of the liberal Lord of prayer.

These are the boons of Him, the Strong, Who should be loved,

Whereby the people have delight.  (Hinduism)

O that men would praise the Lord for His goodness,

And for His wonderful works to the children of men!  (Judaism)
