Week 9 of Year 4 "The Hidden Treasure"

Menu

For adult study: "The Hidden Treasure"

The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, titled Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story. Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture.

Paper 151:4.4
The Urantia Book

The kingdom of heaven

Students may read Paper 151:4.4

Jesus sat in a boat on the Sea of Galilee and taught a large crowd that had gathered on the shore. He told the people a parable saying, “The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in a field.” The joyful man, who found the treasure, sold everything he owned in order to buy the field that contained the hidden treasure. Jesus told parables like this so people could easily remember what he said and begin to understand more about the kingdom of heaven.

Discussion Questions

What does this parable tell us about the kingdom of heaven? What kind of treasure would we find in the kingdom of heaven? Remember that Jesus said, “Seek first the kingdom of God,” and “The Kingdom of God is within you.”

Chapter 32—Righteousness and Virtue—p.168

The righteous shall shine forth as the sun

In the kingdom of their Father.  (Christianity)

One's dwelling should be benevolence.
And one's path should be righteousness.
When benevolence is the dwelling-place of the heart,
And righteousness the path of the life,
the business of a great man is complete.  (Confucianism)
