Extra Lesson "Feast of Dedication"

Menu

For adult study: "Feast of Dedication"

The story summary and questions were written in a way that makes it possible to use a New Testament reference in place of the Urantia reference. A selected chapter from a 1932 book, titled Treasure-House of the Living Religions, supports a spiritual theme that is found within the story. Children will use a one page handout that includes a coloring picture.

Paper 164:2
The Urantia Book

And it was winter

Students may read Paper 164:2

Jesus went to Jerusalem for the Feast of Dedication, which we also know as the eight days of Hanukkah. Each night, people light one more candle on the Menorah. Jesus went to the feast because he wanted to give the religious leaders another chance to hear his message and see the light of truth. One evening, he met with the leaders who already believed his teachings. The next day, Jesus decided how he would gain the attention of the leaders who opposed him.

Discussion Questions

The Menorah helped the Jewish people remember a special story about their temple in Jerusalem. Candlelight is always nice, but why is it especially nice during the month of December? What truths did Jesus bring to our world?
